"Knock in prayer and it shall be

opened in contemplation."

-St. John of the Cross-

Our Lady of Mount Carmel

We are lay Catholics, from diverse backgrounds, living in the secular world committed to a life of service through prayer and apostolic acts of love.  We have a deep desire to know God so God will be known.  We are members of the Discalced Carmelite Order because we belong to a province that received us, which in turn we've made a lifetime commitment.  Our daily life includes, Mass, devotion to Mary, Liturgy of the Hours and Meditation; we also participate in Days of Recollection and an annual retreat.  “The great Teresian Carmelite family is present in the world in many forms. The nucleus of this family is the Order of Discalced Carmelites: the Friars, the Nuns, and the Seculars. It is one Order with the same charism. The Order is nourished by the long tradition of Carmel, expressed in the Rule of St. Albert and the doctrine of the Carmelite Doctors of the Church and the Order’s other saints.” - Intro to Constitutions

St. Theresa of Jesus

St. Teresa of Jesus was a Spanish Carmelite nun, writer, and reformer
of the Carmelite order. She was also the first women named as a
Doctor of the Church for her teachings

St. Theresa of Jesus, Secular Order of Discalced Carmelites

“The important thing is not
to think much but to love much
and so do that which best
stirs you to love. Love is not
great delight but desire to
please God in everything.”

Theresian Charism

"Prayer is nothing more than becoming friends with God"

The Brown Scapular of Our Lady of Mount Carmel is the habit of the Carmelite Order and the meaning is reflected in:

The Morning Offering
O my God, in union with the Immaculate Heart of Mary (here kiss the scapular as a sign of your consecration), I offer Thee the Precious Blood of Jesus from all the altars throughout the world, joining with It the offering of my every thought, word and action of this day. O my Jesus, I desire today to gain every indulgence and merit I can, and I offer them, together with myself, to Mary Immaculate, that she may best apply them to the interests of Thy most Sacred Heart. Precious Blood of Jesus, save us! Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us! Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on us!
